We are delighted to announce that Bristol City Council has granted planning permission for our redevelopment of 4-16 Filwood Broadway, a significant step forward in the regeneration of Knowle West and a key part of Bristol City Council’s ‘Transforming Filwood Broadway’ programme.
Our design draws on the area’s distinctive Art Deco character while delivering contemporary, high-performance homes and community-oriented spaces. The scheme includes:
- 18 high-quality, dual-aspect affordable homes
- 416 sqm of flexible ground-floor commercial and community space
- A shared southwest-facing communal garden
- A low-carbon strategy incorporating reused materials from the existing structure
We’ve worked closely with local residents, organisations and young people throughout the design process – including students from two nearby secondary schools who contributed to the layout and design of the commercial units. This collaboration continues to shape the next phase of development.
Supported by £14.5m from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund and £1.72m from Bristol City Council, the project will be delivered alongside wider public realm improvements and the retrofit of Filwood Community Centre by Hayhurst and Co.
“We are proud to be part of a wider set of Bristol City Council projects, reflecting true teamwork and community spirit. This project seeks to encourage self-ownership by creating something residents can be proud of, and to support and promote already well-established community connections” said project Architect, Katie Hackett.
