Get SMEs Building Again: A 10-Point Plan to Save the Sector

RCKa director Russell Curtis has contributed an article to a new publication by specialist developer Pocket Living – “Get SMEs Building Again: A 10-Point Plan to Save the Sector”.

The report makes a number of recommendations as to how a new Labour government could reinvigorate a struggling SME housebuilding sector, including updates to planning policy to mandate a strong presumption of favour for new homes close to existing stations, streamlining and simplifying the planning system for small developments, and ensuring more predictable planning outcomes. All of which can be done quickly, efficiently, and within existing legislation.

Russell’s article builds on the practice’s recent research around suburban intensification, which is helping to shape national small site planning policy.

Small-scale housing development has the potential to deliver large number of homes, quickly, and in the right locations – as well as fuelling economic growth and investment in local jobs, skills, and training.
