PegasusLife Hortsley wins Sussex Heritage Award

RCKa’s Hortsley development in Seaford, East Sussex has won the 2019 Sussex Heritage Award for Large-Scale Residential at a ceremony held at Pangdean Old Barn in Pyecombe.

There were a total of 97 entries for this year’s award, which was established in 1999 to “recognise and reward the highest quality conservation, restoration and good design of newly built projects”.

The awards include nine categories from Small Scale Residential to Public and Community.

The judges celebrated Hortsley’s innovative utilisation of a challenging town-centre site, and described the development as “a blueprint for redefining the form of future urban retirement living”.

An innovative urban development of 38 units of 1 & 2 bedrooms, utilising a challenging town centre site. The architects, RCKa, had clearly gone to extraordinary lengths to research and develop a new concept of retirement housing encouraging wellbeing and inclusivity through design. A blueprint for redefining the form of future of urban retirement living.
