RCKa is delighted to announce our recently completed Pocket Living Arklow Road has been shortlisted for this year’s AJ Retrofit Awards.
Arklow Road is testament to the tangible benefits of building reuse. The project showcases a successful marriage between a client’s bold approach to design, and an architect’s vision to embrace and enhance the local heritage of Deptford. The client, Pocket Living, an affordable housing provider, stepped away from their refined new-build solution and committed instead to celebrating the rich material and spatial character of the existing building, despite the building having no statutory protection.
The result is a stunning re-imagining of a 1920’s industrial warehouse that combines crisp detailing and contemporary materials, alongside generous high-quality shared spaces designed to encourage social interaction.
